Dorothy M. Jones Papers.

The Dorothy M. Jones Papers consist of materials Jones gathered in her research on the Aleuts of the Pribilof Islands. Materials include correspondence from Fredericka Martin and Barbara Torrey, transcripts and notes from interviews, annotated copies of documents from the community logs of St. Paul and St. George Islands, as well as correspondence and annotated copies of documents from various federal agencies. Also included is a manuscript of Fredericka Martin's "The wind is no river" and a draft of the Annual Medical Report from 1941-42 by Dr. Samuel Berenberg of St. Paul Island. The materials in this collection document the activities and interactions of the Aleut people living on St. Paul and St. George Island.

Fredericka (Freddie) Imogene Martin (1905-1992) was a writer, historian, and nurse who served as a chief nurse and medical administrator during the Spanish Civil War. Martin was born in Cooperstown, New York on June 2, 1905. Her father died in an accident before her birth and when she was five her mother remarried.
